Plastic Product Design / Electronics Enclosure

Handheld RFID Reader Plastic Housing

Handheld RFID reader housing designed around internal electronics with injection molding, ergonomics, assembly, and plastic part manufacturing in mind.

Engineering challenge

The client needed a handheld RFID reader enclosure that could protect and position internal electronic components while remaining comfortable to hold. The plastic housing had to support electronics integration and be suitable for injection molding.

Design approach

Guenzo designed the handheld RFID reader housing around the internal electronics layout. The design considered the handle shape, housing split, wall thickness, internal ribs, screw bosses, component supports, part assembly, and injection molding requirements. The outer shape was developed to create a practical handheld product while leaving room for electronic boards, scanning components, wiring, and internal fastening features.

Manufacturing considerations

The housing was designed with plastic part design principles such as draft angles, consistent wall thickness, radii, split lines, internal support features, screw bosses, and assembly access. The design also considered how the electronics would be mounted and protected inside the enclosure.
