Simple Welding Robot for Straight Welds
Low-cost welding carriage designed for straight welds using a stepper motor drive, bearings, guide elements, and a simple mechanical support frame.
Engineering challenge
The client wanted a simple and affordable alternative to a full industrial welding robot. The goal was not complex robotic automation, but a practical mechanism that could move a welding torch in a straight and controlled path for repeatable straight welds.
Design approach
Guenzo designed a compact linear welding robot / welding carriage using a stepper motor drive, bearings, guide elements, and a mechanical support frame. The design focused on controlled linear movement, simple adjustment, easy manufacturing, and low-cost components. The machine was created to be understandable and serviceable by a fabrication workshop, without unnecessary automation complexity.
Manufacturing considerations
The design used standard mechanical components where possible, including bearings, motor hardware, guide parts, fasteners, and machined plates. Custom components were kept simple to reduce machining cost and make fabrication easier. The system was designed as a practical welding aid for straight weld applications.
